    VISA/IMMIGRATION UPDATE!
    Q: Do I need a visa to travel to Saipan?
  • A: Saipan's immigration is handled by the United States, therefore, all the rules that apply for entry into the US also apply to Saipan. However, because Saipan is unique, there are a few exceptions.

    STEP 1: Check if your country of passport is on this list of 36 countries (see "Eligible Countries") for which the visa requirement is waived (not needed). If your country is on this list, you DO NOT need a visa.


    STEP 2: Check if your country of passport is on the list of 6 additional countries (See "Guam and Northern Mariana Islands Visa Waiver Program") that are part of the visa waiver program. If your country is on this list, you DO NOT need a visa.


    STEP 3: Check if this applies to you: "Despite not being included in the new Guam-CNMI visa waiver program, citizens of Mainland China and Russia can still visit the Northern Mariana Islands in a parole arrangement for up to 45 days."

    Required: passport, onward/return ticket.


    CONCLUSION: If your country of passport is not on any of the above lists, then it is most likely that you need to apply for a visa for your trip to Saipan. Contact the US embassy in your country of passport.

    LATEST CNMI/GUAM VISA WAIVER NEWS! (FOR RUSSIAN AND CHINESE VISITORS)
    An email from Jerry Aevermann, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Assistant Port director for Guam stated that Russian tourists to Guam must meet the following conditions:

    • Travel to Guam and/or the CNMI on a signatory carrier to the Guam-CNMI VWP directly from a foreign port of embarkation.

    • Travel to either Guam and/or the CNMI must not to exceed 45 days.

    • A citizen of Russia may be paroled in either Guam or the CNMI, may travel between Guam and the CNMI, but may not remain in the region longer than 45 days.

    • Be in possession of a round-trip ticket that is nonrefundable and nontransferable and bears a departure date not exceeding 45 days from the date of entry to Guam or the CNMI.

    • Be in possession of a completed and signed Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Information Form (CBP Form I-736). (Airlines are responsible for providing all entry forms.)

    • Be in possession of a completed CBP Form I-94, Arrival-Departure Record.

    • Each applicant must be in possession of a valid, unexpired International Civil Aviation Organization-compliant, machine-readable passport. (Children cannot be riding on their parents passports.)

    Additional conditions the citizen of Russia must meet include:

    • Traveler must be classifiable as a visitor for business or pleasure.

    • Parole authorization is limited to Guam and the CNMI only and does not confer the benefit of travel to another location within the United States.

    • Visitors who are paroled under this authority may not engage in local employment or labor for hire.
    Chinese and Russian tourists will be allowed a 45-day stay in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands without a visitor visa even when U.S. immigration law takes effect in the CNMI on Nov. 28, 2009 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has decided, according to the Department of the Interior this morning.
